By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to: candidates and prospective candidates — attorneys across all practice areas, with particular focus on intellectual property and patent law, as well as paralegals and legal support staff; clients and prospective clients, including law firms, corporate legal departments, and other organizations; and visitors to our Site.
Information we collect
Information you provide to us. Resumes and CVs, contact details, employment and education history, bar admissions and credentials, practice areas and technical background, compensation expectations, references, work-authorization status, and any other information you submit when you contact us, brief us on a search, or apply.
Information from clients. When clients engage us, we collect contact details and information about the roles, matters, and requirements for a search.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect usage and device data — such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring URLs — through cookies and analytics tools.
Information from third parties. We may receive information from references you provide, from publicly available professional sources (such as professional directories, court and litigation records, and firm websites), and from the Patexia data ecosystem, to evaluate and verify candidate experience.
How we use information
- Provide recruiting and staffing services, including matching candidates with client opportunities;
- Evaluate candidates against role requirements, experience, litigation history, conflicts, and market fit;
- Communicate with you about opportunities, searches, and inquiries;
- Operate, maintain, analyze, and improve the Site and Services;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements;
- Protect the rights, property, and safety of Lateral Compass, our clients, candidates, and others.
How we share information
We share personal information only as needed to provide the Services and as described here:
- With candidates and clients as part of the recruiting process — for example, presenting a candidate's qualifications to a prospective employer — consistent with the confidentiality described below;
- With service providers who perform services on our behalf (such as hosting, analytics, and communications) under appropriate confidentiality obligations;
- With our affiliate Patexia Inc. to provide and improve the Services;
- For legal reasons — to comply with law, legal process, or governmental requests, or to protect rights and safety;
- In a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information.
Confidentiality
Every inquiry is handled in strict confidence. We do not disclose a candidate's identity or interest to any client or third party without the candidate's consent.

We use cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how the Site is used and to improve it. We also use Cloudflare for content delivery and security. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect Site functionality.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, maintain candidate and client relationships, and comply with our legal obligations, after which we delete or de-identify it.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, update, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, to opt out of certain processing, and to withdraw consent. We will respond consistent with applicable law, including, where applicable, the California Consumer Privacy Act and the EU/UK GDPR, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
Children's privacy
The Services are intended for professionals and are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
